Proyecto temporal para la Serpentine Gallery de Zaha Hadid y Patrick Schumacher, que consiste en tres parasoles gigantes dispuestos sobre una superficie cuadrada de 310 m2 y 5,5 m de alto inspirados en las formas orgánicas de las lilas sobre el césped.

Geometría

…Por otro lado Cecil Balmond, el ingeniero de Ove Arup que colaboró en la Serpentine Gallery, es un genio de la geometría que tiene su propia y excepcional lógica. Justo hace poco tuve una larga conversación telefónica con él sobre un proyecto que estamos haciendo en Inglaterra y le pregunte:

¿No podríamos simplemente dibujar líneas al azar sin girar el cuadrado como lo hicimos en la Serpentine Gallery?

Pero el insistía: “No, necesitas un algoritmo. Tienes que girar el cuadrado de acuerdo con alguna regla”

Es extraño, incluso las líneas dibujadas al azar recurren a las costumbres.

Pavilion – Serpentine Gallery London – Toyo Ito

La comisión de la Serpentine Gallery de Londres convoca una vez por año a un arquitecto de prestigio internacional para diseñar un pabellón de carácter temporal para ser construido en sus jardines. El programa único en el mundo, fue ideado por la Directora de la Galería, Julia Peyton-Jones y representa un oportunidad para crear proyectos estructurales de tipo experimental. Algunos de los arquitectos cuyos pabellones han pasado por la Galeria fueron el de Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Toyo Ito, Oscar Niemeyer y Rem Koolhaas.

El pabellón de Toyo Ito para la Serpentine Gallery sin duda es uno de los tantos ejemplos donde lo efímero no es necesariamente light ni cool. Una estructura tridimensional de aluminio cuya trama de generación formal y constructiva se apoya sobre los conceptos del trazado geométrico de crecimiento armónico en espiral.
